The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events which students prepare for during the year. The competitions follow the format of popular board games, TV shows and athletic games.

2017 Division A Science Olympiad

The 2017 Division A (Elementary) Science Olympiad was held on Saturday, March 25th at Mira Loma High School in Sacramento, CA.  Eighteen teams from the Sacramento area participated in the competition.  The top five teams were:
1st Place:  Del Paso Manor
2nd Place:  Deterding-A
3rd Place:  Phoenix Schools-Folsom
4th Place:  Mission Avenue-A
5th Place:  Golden Hills School 
Congratulations to these winning teams and to all teams that participated!  

2017 NorCal Science Olympiad

The 2017 NorCal (State) Science Olympiad competition was held  on April 1, 2017 in Turlock, CA at CSU, Stanislaus.  Winston Churchill Middle School won the Division B competition and Mira Loma High School won the Division C competition.  Both of these teams will now travel to Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio for the 2017 National Science Olympiad.  Congratulations and Good Luck to both of these Sacramento teams!

2017 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad

The 2017 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad was held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Mira Loma High School.  Nineteen  B Division (middle school) teams competed and Twenty-five C Division (high school) teams competed.  
The results are:

B Division:
1st place:  Winston Churchill MS-A
2nd place: Pomolita MS-A
3rd place:  Granite Oaks MS
4th place:  Smedberg MS
5th place:  TIE
    Barrett MS
      Elizabeth Pinkerton MS
C Division: 
1st place:  Mira Loma HS-A

The NorCal State Science Olympiad will be held on April 1, 2017 at CSU, Stanislaus in Turlock, CA.  Churchill, Pomolita, Granite Oaks and Smedberg will compete in the NorCal  B Division competition.  Mira Loma, Sheldon, Bella Vista and Pleasant Grove will compete in the NorCal C Division competition.  
Congratulations to these winning teams!

If you have not submitted your official registration documents and registration fees, please do this as quickly as possible.  If for some reason you have NOT received the pdf of the official rules, please let me know immediately.  

There is still time for additional schools to register.  

REMINDER:  Each school is responsible for providing an Event Coordinator to run one of the events listed and also providing volunteers to assist with the event.  An official document will be emailed next week for individual schools to request an event that isn't covered at this time. 

Information concerning registering for SCIENCE BOWL will be emailed next week.   Teams will be able to request specific time blocks for this event.  The SCHEDULE of events is a DRAFT schedule.   

Please encourage other schools to participate.

The on-line registration for the self-scheduled events will take place beginning on Feb. 1, 2017 beginning at 4:00 PM.  Please look for important emails concerning this process in the near future.

First Coaches Meeting 2017

"Thank You" for showing up for the 1st coaches meeting for the 2017 Division A Science Olympiad.  It was great to see lots of new faces, and thanks to the "veterans" for answering questions and providing suggestions.  

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th at 5:00 PM at Mira Loma High School.  If you think an earlier meeting would be beneficial, please let me know, and I'll schedule one in November or December. 

Please contact other schools in your area and encourage them to form a team/teams.  Ideally, I would like to have  20-24 teams competing this year. 

As soon as you submit the "intent to participate" form, I will forward the event guidelines to you.  The guidelines will be available next week.

First Coaches Meeting 2017

The 1st Coaches Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Mira Loma High School in Room F-3.  Division B and C coaches will meet from 4:00-5:00 PM.  Division A coaches will meet from 5:00 - 6:00 PM.  

This meeting will be of particular interest to new or beginning coaches/teams.

2017 Science Olympiad

The 2017 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad will be held at CSUS or Mira Loma High School on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Please mark this date on your calendars and begin organizing your teams.

Upon receipt of the registration form and payment, a 2017 rules book will be sent and you will be assigned a team number.

The NorCal State Science Olympiad will be held in Turlock, CA at CSU, Stanislaus on Saturday, April 1, 2017.

If you are no longer the coach at your school, please forward this email to the person who will be coaching the team. If you know of other schools that might be interested in starting a Science Olympiad team, please send me their information and forward this email to them. We need to increase the number of teams for our competition.

In addition, there will be a separate "Division A" Elementary Science Olympiad competition.

The 2017 Sacramento Division "A" Science Olympiad competition will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Mira Loma High School in Sacramento, CA.

Last year, we had an exciting competition, and I look forward to even more teams participating this year. Please forward this email to other schools in your district/region that might be interested in competing.

Golden Gate Invitational:

"Golden Gate Science Olympiad is excited to welcome NorCal teams to the inaugural Stanford-Berkeley tournament on February 11th, 2017! Official tournament policies are now up atgoldengateso.com, and registration will open September 20th at noon. We're looking forward to a fun and competitive tournament this winter!"

Hi NorCal teams! We're a group of past National medalists at Stanford and UC Berkeley, and we've enjoyed seeing many of you out at the regional and state tournaments we've been volunteering at the past year. Today, we're here announce an exciting collaboration between our two groups: the first annual Golden Gate Invitational. On February 11, 2017, our schools will co-host an invitational run exclusively by past national competitors and event supervisors, open to teams from California and across the nation. We're thrilled to be the first university-run invitational on the west coast, and invite anyone interested to check out our website at www.goldengateso.com. Make sure to sign up for the mailing list on the website to hear more information this summer and fall!  

Mira Loma High School Invitational:
